North clinches title share
BLOOMINGTON — Class 4A No. 5 Columbus North clinched at least a tie for the Conference Indiana title with an 8-0 victory Wednesday at Bloomington South.
Maddox threw a four hitter and struck out seven for the Bull Dogs (16-5, 4-0). Kyler McIntosh went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs, and Adam Champan went 2 for 3.
North and win the conference title outright with a win Saturday at Terre Haute South.
Panthers nip Owls
NORTH VERNON — Jennings County edged Seymour 4-3 Wednesday in a consolation-round game of the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament.
Cody Wilson and Duncan Rowda combined on a three-hitter for the Panthers (5-8). Jacob Vogel had a home run and two RBIs.
Jennings will play at Columbus East in the HHC fifth-place game on Friday.
Jets fall to Bulldogs
HOPE — Batesville scored six times in the first two innings Tuesday and went on to hand Hauser a 17-6 defeat.
Parker Eickbush went 2 for 2 for the Jets (10-4). Sean Miller went 2 for 4.
Lancers rout Tigers
EDINBURGH — Coltan Henderson threw a three-hitter, and Edinburgh blasted 15 hits on its way to a 17-0, five-inning victory Tuesday against Crothersville.
Bryce Burton was 4 for 4, and Zack Giles went 3 for 4 with two home runs and six RBIs for the Lancers (3-12). Ethan Armel went 2 for 2 with four RBIs, and Henderson went 2 for 2 with two RBIs.
Cougars down Mohawks
GREENSBURG —Brogan Howard threw a four-hitter and went 2 for 3 with a double Tuesday to lead South Decatur to a 12-6 MHC victory against Waldron.
Nolan Storm went 3 for 4 for the Cougars (4-7, 3-4).
Columbus Christian falls
ANDERSON — Liberty Christian scored nine times in the second and went on to hand Columbus Christian a 13-3, five-inning victory on Tuesday.
Owen Reed and Layton Crosslow each went 2 for 3 for the Crusaders (2-7).

Bull Dogs win twice
Columbus North picked up two wins in two days, the latest a 5-1 victory at Greensburg on Wednesday.
Bailey Lofton went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs, and Sierra Norman went 2 for 4 with a homer. Rachel Cowan threw a six-hitter.
The Bull Dogs moved a step closer to winning the Conference Indiana title Tuesday night with a 7-5 win at Bloomington South.
The Panthers tied the game at 5-5 after five innings, but Cowan hit a go-ahead homer in the sixth, and Lofton added another homer in the seventh.
Cowan, who picked up the win in relief, went 2 for 3 with a double and the homer. Norman also homered for the Bull Dogs.
North (9-8, 4-0) can win the conference title with a win Monday at Southport. The Cardinals are the only other unbeaten team in the conference.
East holds off Devils
JEFFERSONVILLE — Columbus East scored three times in the top of the eighth, then turned back Jeffersonville after it put up two runs in the bottom of the inning Wednesday to hold on for an 12-11 HHC win.
Mady Foster went 4 for 5 with two RBIs, and Jordan Johnston went 3 for 5 for the Olympians (6-12, 2-4). Winning pitcher Jenna Robbins went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, Becca Carter went 2 for 3 with a double, Katie Taylor went 2 for 4 and Julia Sitterding went 2 for 5 with a triple and three RBIs. Brooke Valles added two RBIs.
Panthers edge Floyd
NORTH VERNON — Gabby Mahoney threw a three-hitter Wednesday, and Jennings County claimed a 2-1 HHC win against Floyd Central.
Karlee Madinger went 2 for 2 for the Panthers (16-5, 5-2).
Crusaders rout Wolves
Emily Stair threw a two-hitter, and Columbus Christian scored nine times in the first inning Tuesday on its way to a 19-5, five-inning victory against Providence Cristo Rey.
Kayden Hofelich went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, and Hannah Stair went 2 for 3 for the Crusaders (6-1). Madi Blair and Ellie Ridder each had two RBIs.
Cougars hold off Jets
SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran scored four times in the first inning Tuesday and held on to post an 8-7 win against Hauser.
Genesis Munoz went 4 for 4, and Bailey Reynolds went 3 for 3 with a double, a home run and three RBI for the Cougars (6-7). Winning pitcher Kamzi Gross and Jaryn Holtsclaw each went 2 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs.
Leah Joyce went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs; and Hunter Crain went 2 for 4 with a triple, a homer and three RBIs for the Jets (4-11).
Eagles no-hit Lancers
NASHVILLE — Emma Summers threw a no-hitter and struck out 18 Tuesday to lead Brown County to a 6-0 win against Edinburgh.
Whitney Clark went 2 for 3 with two home runs and three RBIs for the Eagles (18-1). Abigail Hollander went 2 for 3 with a double, and Marley Nickels added a homer.
Taylor Littiken threw and eight-hitter for the Lancers (11-8).
Cougars split pair
Jac-Cen-Del beat South Decatur 13-0 in five innings Wednesday in a preview of a first-round sectional matchup. The Cougars were limited to two hits.
On Tuesday, Sierra Lang threw a three-hitter and went 3 for 3 with a triple, a home run and five RBIs to lead South Decatur to an 11-1, five-inning MHC win against Waldron. Brook Somers went 3 for 3 for the Cougars (2-12, 2-3).
TRACK AND FIELD
Cougar boys take third
WALDRON — Three girls and two boys from Hauser won their events in Tuesday’s Mid-Hoosier Conference meet.
Waldron won the boys meet with 148 1/2 points to 111 for Southwestern (Shelby). South Decatur edged Hauser 88-87 for third, and Edinburgh took seventh with eight.
North Decatur won the girls meet with 131 points. South Decatur finished fourth with 74, while Hauser took fifth with 70 and Edinburgh was seventh with one.
Trent Nobbe led the Cougar boys with a win in the 110-meter hurdles (17.27 seconds). Shawn Wright finished second in the 100 (11.94).
The Jets’ John Bragg won the high jump (6 feet, 2 inches) and Emils Vigants took the 400 (54.60). Ryan Ault finished second in the 1,600 (4:53.58) and 3,200 (10:53.31), Vigants took second in the 200 (24.26) and Hauser was second in the 4×800 (9:35.11) and 4×400 (3:55.59) relays.
All of Edinburgh’s points came on a second-place finish from Logan DeLoach in the 400 (58.27).
Hauser’s girls had wins from Ashley Chambers in the 400 (1:06.25), Mel Hasler in the 300 hurdles (48.50) and Marnie Schwartzkopf in the 800 (2:32.91).
Lana Bell finished second in the high jump (5-0), and Sierra Kalli took second in the 3,200 (13:54.50) to lead South Decatur. Edinburgh’s lone point came on and eighth-place finish in the discus by Malkia Willard (68-0).
GIRLS Tennis
Greyhounds edge North
CARMEL — Seventh-ranked Columbus North gave No. 3 Carmel a battle Tuesday, but the Greyhounds escaped with a 3-2 victory.
Ashlie Wilson beat Sydney Morris 3-6, 6-4, (10-6) at No. 1 singles for the Bull Dogs (15-3). Servane Cloteaux and Tiffany Fu topped Franny Werner and Selena Liu 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
North’s Eva Chevalier fell to Apurva Manas 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Shweta Srinivasan lost to Emma Brune 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Jaline Tay and Ali Bergman fell to Leila Antony and Lauren Littrell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.
Braves slip past Jets
HOPE — Indian Creek pulled out a three-set win at No. 1 doubles to claim a 3-2 win Tuesday at Hauser.
Melanie Taylor beat Alyssa Pruitt 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 singles for the Jets (6-5). Brooke Hopkins and Aunaka Wasil downed Emilee Scott and Zoe Rayback 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.
Abby Johnson fell to Katie Burkman 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and Kaitlynn Everroad lost to Gabby Schwartz 7-6 (2), 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Carly Archer and Maddy Archer fell to Brooke Coy and Ally Harriss 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.
Eagles fall twice
Brown County took back-to-back 5-0 losses Tuesday and Wednesday, falling to Martinsville and Bloomington North.
At Martinsville, Baelyn Koester fell to Maggie Viewegh 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Julia Williams lost to Ali Viewegh 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Meg Smith fell to Morgan Payne 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Eagles.
Brown County’s Olivia Baughman and Cassidy Davis lost to Sydney Smith and Katie Fulkerson 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. Grace Baughman and Hannah Asher fell to Olivia Ostler and Erica Hedrick 6-1, 3-6, (10-4) at No. 2 doubles.
Against Bloomington North, Koester fell to Katie Rusche 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Williams lost to Christine Zhou 3-0, default at No. 2 singles and Smith fell to Jade Vasquez 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Eagles (3-15). Olivia Baughman and Davis lost to Joy Bhattacharya and Izzy Flynn 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Grace Baughman and Asher fell to Siggy Force and Kunga Lhamo 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Salem tops Trinity
SALEM — Trinity Lutheran claimed a point at No. 2 singles, but that was all in a 4-1 loss Tuesday at Salem.
Sarah Lemming won 6-4, 7-6 (6) at No. 2 singles for the Cougars (5-10). Abby Schult fell 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Regan Cain lost 7-5, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, Lauren Fleetwood and Cassidy Burnside fell 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles and Katelyn Mensendiek and Flossie Cooper lost 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Panthers edge Stars
BEDFORD — Jennings County pulled out a three-set win at No. 2 doubles Wednesday to claim a 3-2 victory at Bedford North Lawrence in the consolation round of the HHC tournament.
Ellie Hearne beat Alex Godsey 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and Reagan Brown downed Presley Clark 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles for the Panthers (8-5). Courtney Lykins and Abigail DeCamp topped Molly Simmerman and Angelica Godsey 7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Jennings’ Hailey Brown fell to Sarah Gaither 7-5, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Callie Wilder and Sydney Carson lost to Abby Riley and Abbey Bridges 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.
The Panthers will host Columbus East in the HHC fifth-place match on Friday.
BOYS golf
North wins tri match
NEW PALESTINE — Drew Smith carded a 38 to win medalist honors and lead 15th-ranked Columbus North to a tri-match win Wednesday at The Links.
The Bull Dogs finished with a 162 team total. New Palestine took second with a 174, and Shelbyville was third with a 197.
Henry Kiel and Luke Schneider each shot 41 for North. Luke VanDeventer carded a 42, Jacob Niedbalski added a 43 and Michael Gambiani had a 45.
Eagles outscore Jets
NASHVILLE — Parker VanNess won medalist honors to lead to lead Brown County to a 182-204 win against Hauser on Wednesday at Salt Creek.
Curtis Lookebill carded a 42 for the Eagles. Cooper VanNess added a 52; Peyton Proctor had a 53; Rex Watters, Paul Kleppe and Carter Kelly all shot 59 and Jordan Burnett finished with a 63.
Sam Johnson led the Jets with a 49. Ethan Wallace and Justice Gilliland each shot 50, Keegan Miller carded a 55, Justin Stafford added a 59 and Ben Johnson shot 66.
Panthers claim second
Jennings County finished second in Tuesday’s three-way meet with a 175. Floyd Central won with a 159 and Seymour finished with 178.
Bryce Kirchner was the medalist for Jennings County with a 36. Adam Leach and Brett Silvey each shot 45s, Joe Kelley and Zach Bingham finished with 49s and Weston Miller added a 53 for the Panthers.
