SEYMOUR — Indiana State Police investigated a two-vehicle crash late Thursday that closed I-65 in Jackson County for near two hours.

Troopers were sent to the crash near the 54 mile marker at 11 p.m. Thursday and learned there was only minor injuries to one driver.

The investigation by Trooper David Owsley indicated that a 2019 Freightliner pulling a trailer, being driven by James Radford, 32, Stamps, Arkansas was traveling southbound in the right lane of I-65, just south of exit 55. The investigation determined that a 2014 Mercedes, being driven by Armajeet Luthra, 72, Louisville, Kentucky was traveling on the right shoulder of I-65, attempting to pass Radford’s vehicle.

Both vehicles then entered an area of the construction zone where the lanes shift to the right, eliminating the shoulder. Radford’s trailer collided with Luthra’s vehicle, pinning his vehicle against the concrete barrier. Luthra was trapped in the vehicle until emergency personnel arrived on scene. Luthra was transported to Schneck Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Radford was not injured.

No citations have been issued at this time although the investigation is ongoing. No alcohol or drugs are suspected in the crash.

The Indiana State Police was assisted by Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Columbus Police Department, Jackson County EMS, 31 Wrecker Service, and C & C Towing.
