Services and studies

Dayspring Church Apostolic — Worship begins at 11:15 a.m. at the church, 2127 Doctors Park Drive, Columbus.

On Sunday, the church will be inspired by the message “Stir Up The Gift,” which is taken from 2 Timothy 1:6, where Paul shares, “…stir up the gift of God …”

Every visitor will receive a free gift.

The Sunday education session starts at 10 a.m. and covers “The Gospel In Action,” as shared in Galatians 6:1-10.

Bible study will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and takes a deep dive on the message from the previous Sunday.

Prayer of Power starts at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and is preceded with requests and instructions on prayer. The Celebrate Recovery session starts at 6:30 p.m. for about an hour.

Ignite is the Youth Growth Session that happens every third Friday.

Fairlawn Presbyterian — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. led by the Rev. Elizabeth Kirkpatrick, followed by fellowship time.

Child care is available during Sunday services and second hour studies.

A men’s breakfast is 7:30 a.m. the second Saturday of every month for men of all ages.

The Last Friday’s Bluegrass event is 7:30 p.m. the last Friday of every month. All are welcome to bring an instrument and play along or simply enjoy the music.

Collections and donations for Love Chapel are peanut butter and jelly in May and canned fruit in June.

First Presbyterian — Infant and toddler care is available from 9:15 a.m. to noon Sunday.

The men’s and women’s support groups meet at 7 a.m. Fridays, and a second men’s support group of working-age men meets every Monday at 6:15 a.m.

People in need of a meal are invited to Hot Meals, offered 5 p.m. Friday, with entry through the glass doors on Franklin Street.

The church is LGBTQ-friendly, open and affirming to all.

First United Methodist — On Sunday, May 26, at the 9 a.m. Traditional Service and the 11 a.m. Celebration Service, Rev. Howard Boles will deliver the message, “What Jesus Left Behind: Peace” at the church, 618 Eighth Street. The scripture will be John 14:23-29.

Sunday School for all ages begins at 10:10 a.m. Child care is available during both services.

Flintwood Wesleyan — The 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday service will be led by the Rev. Wes Jones, senior pastor, at the church, 5300 E. 25th St., Columbus.

On Thursdays, Cub Scout Pack 588 will meet when events are scheduled and Boy Scout Troop 588 will meet at 7 p.m.

The Prayer Team meets at 8 a.m. Sunday school classes meet in their regular rooms. There is no regular evening activities.

Celebrate Recovery begins with a meal at 5:25 p.m. in the Friendship Center and the meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the main Sanctuary. The public is invited to attend.

“In The Beginning…” a small group Bible study will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in The Friendship Center. It is studying the Book of Genesis.

Wednesday activities begin with supper at 5:30 p.m. followed by GLOW at 6:15 p.m. This is the last GLOW until school resumes in the fall. The Prayer Team meets at 6:15 p.m. in The Prayer Room. Youth meets at 6:30 p.m. and adult Bible study meets at 7 p.m. in the Sanctuary.

Garden City Church of Christ — Pastor Brian Gilroy is the lead minister and Pastor Brian Graves is the family life minister.

Grace Lutheran — The Rev. John Armstrong will be bringing the message based on John 16:23-33. Worship begins at 8 and 10:30 a.m. with children’s Sunday school at 9:30 a.m.

A thank you reception for departing Music Director Stephen Smith and Assistant Director Elizabeth Moses will be held at noon, after the second service.

“Searching the Scriptures” continues from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, with a detailed look at The Ten Commandments. All are welcome. Please contact the church for more information.

Light of Life Lutheran — Bible study will be 4 p.m. June 9 at The Commons, 300 Washington St., Columbus. It will take place in the Xenia Miller Conference Room located on the second floor.

The study topic will be: “How Did Jesus Save the World?” The Bible study will be led by Pastor Scott Miller from Light o=f Life Lutheran Church. Light of Life is a confessional Lutheran Church that holds strongly to every word of the Bible as the word of God. The study will last about an hour. Study materials will be provided. All are welcome.

Memorial Baptist — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m., at 2320 Seventh St., Columbus.

Sunday school classes for all ages follow at 10:45 a.m. There are programs for both children and youth as well.

Old Union United Church of Christ — Sunday service is at 10 a.m.; it is the sixth Sunday of Easter. Sunday school is at 9 a.m., followed by fellowship at 9:40 a.m. Pastor Kirby Rupp will deliver the message, “The Power of Listening,” with readings from Acts 16:9-15; Psalm 67; and John 14:23-29.

Wednesday Bible study is on a summer hiatus.

Petersville United Methodist — At the 9 a.m. worship service on Sunday, the Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry will deliver the message “Freedom to Heal.” There will be an emphasis on the question, “Do we want to be well?” Scriptures from John 5:6 will be shared by Karen Mize, liturgist for the month of May, at the church, located at 2781 N. County Road 500E, Columbus. Special music will be provided by the choir. Teresa Covert will give the children’s sermon.

A time of fellowship will follow the service.

The Baker’s Dozen study group will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the home of Larry and Connie Nolting. The Journey study class is on hiatus currently. New members are always welcome.

The “Sit ‘n Stitch” group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, also at the Nolting home. Choir practice is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and the Prayer Group will meet at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the church.

On Pentecost Sunday, June 9, an outdoor worship service will be held on the east side of the church. Attendees are encouraged to wear the color red and bring lawn chairs.

St. Paul Lutheran — Services will be celebrated Sunday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 6045 E. State St. at the 8 and 10:45 a.m.

Unitarian Universalist Church of Christ — At the 10 a.m. mass on Sunday Rev. Dennis McCarty will give the message, “When Democracy Stumbles.”

Gallup polls say 65 percent of Americans think our democracy is headed the wrong way. Minister Emeritus Dennis McCarty observes that this is nothing new. Democracy does sometimes lose its groundedness. The Sunday before Memorial Day, he will examine a previous stumble, 1950s McCarthyism, and the rise and fall of Sen. Joseph McCarthy himself, to seek insights for our time.

Westside Community — At 10 a.m. Sunday, Pastor Robert Vester will lead the service at the church, at State Road 46 West and Tipton Lakes Boulevard, Columbus. The children’s program for children of all ages through sixth grade begins at the same time.

WCC will have both a men’s and women’s study this summer. Studies meet for six weeks from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. starting June 26. The men will be working through “Irresistible,” and the women will be studying “You’ll Get Through This: Hope and Help for Turbulent Times.”

Events

East Columbus Christian — The church presents Fuel on Wednesday nights which includes a free meal and Bible study from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

It is located at 3170 Indiana Ave., next to Columbus East High School.

Flintwood Wesleyan — The open market will start at 8:30 a.m. on June 1. The market will be the first Saturday of each month June through October. Local artisans will be set up plus food booths and produce booths. If you are interested in renting a booth contact Kim Rutan in the church office.

Kids Bible Camp will be held at our District Campground in Orleans, June 11-14.

Revolution, which is the church’s Teen Camp, will be held at our District Campground in Orleans, June 17-21.

VBS will be held June 24-27.

First United Methodist — At 7 p.m. May 31, FUMC will present David K. Lamb on the organ. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The concert, part of the Fridays@First series, will be in the sanctuary, and is free and open to the public.

First United Methodist Church will be partnering with First Presbyterian Church to offer a free VBS program entitled “Who is My Neighbor? Learning to Love Like Jesus.” It will be 5:30 to 8 p.m. June 24 to 27 at First Presbyterian Church, 512 Seventh St.

Garden City Church of Christ — The Incredible Race Vacation Bible school for children age 4 through sixth grade is set for June 9-16. Sessions will be 6-8:30 p.m. and will include dinner.

Kids will participate in activities to uncover clues and attempt challenges as they fill score cards. Messages will include the concept that all people all part of the same race — the human race — and all part of the same family from Adam and Eve.

Healing Waters Ministries — On June 14, the Farm Hands will be performing at the church, 2330 Midway St., Columbus.

Lowell General Baptist — The church will be having an open mic sing at 7 p.m. on June 1.

South Central Indiana Christian Men’s Fellowship — At 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, there will be dinner at the Flat Rock Christian Church, 2854 W. Pope St., Flat Rock. The meal will include fried chicken, cheesy potatoes, green beans, dessert and drinks. At 7:15, there will be a meeting. The Rev. Ron Bridgewater of East Columbus Christian Church will be the speaker.
