Services and studies

Dayspring Church Apostolic — Worship begins at 11:15 a.m. at the church, 2127 Doctors Park Drive, Columbus.

On Sunday, the church will be inspired by the message “A Father’s Day Message,” presented by Minister Charlene Bosley.

Every visitor will receive a free gift.

The Sunday education session starts at 10 a.m. and covers “ Abram Blessed by Melchizedek,” as shared in Genesis 14:1-2, 11-20.

Bible study will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and takes a deep dive on the message from the previous Sunday.

Prayer of Power starts at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and is preceded with requests and instructions on prayer. The Celebrate Recovery session starts at 6:30 p.m. for about an hour.

Ignite is the Youth Growth Session that happens every third Friday.

Fairlawn Presbyterian — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. led by the Rev. Elizabeth Kirkpatrick, followed by fellowship time.

Child care is available during Sunday services and second hour studies.

A men’s breakfast is 7:30 a.m. the second Saturday of every month for men of all ages.

The Last Friday’s Bluegrass event is 7:30 p.m. the last Friday of every month. All are welcome to bring an instrument and play along or simply enjoy the music.

Collections and donations for Love Chapel are canned fruit in June.

First Presbyterian — At 10 a.m. Sunday, Father’s Day, the church will have an annual outdoor worship service at the Donner Park shelter house, 739 22nd St., Columbus. The band Livin’ by Faith will lead us in worship. The church will reflect on Psalm 113 with a sermon titled “Who is like you, God, our God?”

Infant and toddler care is available from 9:15 a.m. to noon Sunday.

The men’s and women’s support groups meet at 7 a.m. Fridays, and a second men’s support group of working-age men meets every Monday at 6:15 a.m.

People in need of a meal are invited to Hot Meals, offered 5 p.m. Friday, with entry through the glass doors on Franklin Street.

The church is LGBTQ-friendly, open and affirming to all.

First United Methodist — On Sunday, at the 9 a.m. Traditional Service and the 11 a.m. Celebration Service, the Rev. Howard Boles will deliver the message, “Topics Jesus Didn’t Cover,” at the church, 618 Eighth St., Columbus. The scripture will be John 16:12-15.

Child care is available during both services.

Flintwood Wesleyan — The 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday service will be led by the Rev. Wes Jones, senior pastor, at the church, 5300 E. 25th St., Columbus.

Sunday is Father’s Day, and all fathers will receive a gift.

On Thursdays, Cub Scout Pack 588 will meet when events are scheduled and Boy Scout Troop 588 will meet at 7 p.m.

The Prayer Team meets at 8 a.m. Sunday school classes meet in their regular rooms at 10 a.m. Choir practice is at 5 p.m.

Celebrate Recovery begins with a meal at 5:25 p.m. in the Friendship Center and the meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the main sanctuary. The public is invited to attend.

“In The Beginning…”, a small group Bible study, will not meet for the summer but will resume at a date to be determined in the fall.

Wednesday activities begin with a Prayer Team meeting at 6 p.m. in The Prayer Room. Bible study is at 6:30 p.m. in The Friendship Center. Parents can still attend Bible study even though GLOW has ended. There will be activities for children pre-school through fourth grade in the basement of Curry Hall.

Garden City Church of Christ — Pastor Brian Gilroy is the lead minister and Pastor Brian Graves is the family life minister.

Grace Lutheran — At the 8 and 10:30 a.m. services the Rev. John Armstrong will be will bringing the message.

Children’s Sunday school starts at 9:30 a.m.

Memorial Baptist — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m., at 2320 Seventh St., Columbus.

Sunday school classes for all ages follow at 10:45 a.m. There are programs for both children and youth as well.

Old Union United Church of Christ — Sunday service is at 10 a.m.; it is the first Sunday after Pentecost and Father’s Day. Sunday school is at 9 a.m., followed by fellowship at 9:40 a.m. Pastor Kirby Rupp will deliver the message, “Wisdom Calls,” with readings from Proverbs 8:1-4, 22-31; Romans 5:1-5; and John 16:12-15.

Wednesday Bible study is on a summer hiatus.

Petersville United Methodist — At the 9 a.m. worship service the Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry will deliver the message “Lighthearted Kezia.” Scriptures will be given from Job 42:12-17, Part 1, at the church, located at 2781 N. County Road 500E, Columbus. Teresa Covert will give the children’s sermon.

A time of fellowship will follow the service.

The Prayer Time session, led by Barb Hedrick at the church, will continue meeting at 10 a.m. each Thursday.

St. Paul Lutheran — At the 8 and 10:45 a.m. services, Pastor Doug Bauman will be delivering the message at the church, 6045 E. State St., Columbus.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation — At the 10 a.m. service on Sunday, Grace Kestler and Marion Dobbs will give the message, “Words from Grace Kestler,” at the church, 7850 W. Goeller Blvd, Columbus.

Grace is an avid traveler and world explorer who currently resides in Columbus. She recently finished her master’s degree in culture and conflict studies at Alice Salomon University (Germany) where she focused on integrating refugees with disabilities. Kestler brings her personal experiences to the table in every aspect of her work and has a passion for inclusive urban planning and universal design. She is committed to creating opportunity for all.

Westside Community — At 10 a.m. Sunday, Pastor Robert Vester will lead the service at the church, at State Road 46 West and Tipton Lakes Boulevard, Columbus. He is concluding the service series titled “Broken — Picking Up and Moving Forward.” The children’s program for children of all ages through sixth grade begins at the same time.

WCC will host a Spring Steak Out at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday with Michael Fodroci as the featured speaker. He worked for NASA as the payload safety lead and in NASA’s International Space Station Safety and Mission Assurance Division.

WCC will have both a men’s and women’s study this summer. Studies meet for six weeks from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. starting June 26. The men will be working through “Irresistible,” and the women will be studying “You’ll Get Through This: Hope and Help for Turbulent Times.”

Events

East Columbus Christian — The church presents Fuel on Wednesday nights, which includes a free meal and Bible study from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

It is located at 3170 Indiana Ave., next to Columbus East High School.

Flintwood Wesleyan — The open market will be the first Saturday of each month June through October from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Local artisans will be set up, plus food booths and produce booths. If you are interested in renting a booth contact Kim Rutan in the church office.

Revolution, which is the church’s teen camp, will be held at the district campground in Orleans, Monday through Friday.

Family Camp at the Orleans Campground continues through friday. Evangelists are Tom Hermiz and Rev. Mark Wilson. The closing concert at 4:30 p.m. Friday will be Jonathan White & Sacred Calling.

VBS will be June 24-27. The theme is “The Greatest Show in Heaven and Earth.” Registration starts at 8:45 a.m. each morning in the foyer of the church or you can pre-register online. Deadline for online registration is Friday. The “Big Top” opens at 9:30 a.m. and goes till noon.

First United Methodist — First United Methodist Church will be partnering with First Presbyterian Church to offer a free VBS program entitled “Who is My Neighbor? Learning to Love Like Jesus.” It will be 5:30 to 8 p.m. June 24 to 27 at First Presbyterian Church, 512 Seventh St.

There will also be an adult VBS from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on June 24 to 27 at First Presbyterian Church. The discussion will be over William Willimon’s book, “Fear of the Other.” For more information, contact Rev. Howard Boles or Sarah Campbell at 812-372-2851.

The First United Methodist Church youth group will have several upcoming “Dine to Donate” events at local restaurants: June 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Panera; and July 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Chicago’s Pizza. Just tell the server/cashier that you are there for the FUMC Dine to Donate event and a portion of your meal will go towards the fundraiser for their trip to Alive this summer.

Heritage Baptist Church — There will be Financial Peace University classes beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday. The church is located at 1075 Second St., Columbus.

Reformed Presbyterian — Vacation Bible School will be 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday for kindergarten through sixth-grade kids. The theme will be “Summer Seaquest,” and the event is free.

St. Paul Lutheran — Vacation Bible School will be 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. June 23-27 at the church, 6045 E. State St., with the theme “Miraculous Mission: Jesus Saves the World.“ Dinner will precede each session beginning at 5:45 p.m.

South Central Indiana Christian Men’s Fellowship — June 25 at New Hope Christian Church, 1404 W. County Road 400N, Columbus. The meal starts at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting follows at 7:15. Dinner will be a Mahoney’s fish fry. The Rev. John Sichting, pastor of New Hope Christian Church, will be the speaker. This month’s event is also open to women. Information: 526-2071.

The Rural Community Fellowship Service — 7 p.m. Thursday at the Christians Aligned for Ministry Purposes at Muscatatuck Christian Ranch, 1412 S. County Road 75W, North Vernon. The theme for the first few services this year is “Those that Serve and Protect Our Rural Communities.”

Jennings County Sheriff Kenny Freeman will talk about some of the community programs that the department is involved with, or going to be starting in the near future. Freeman will share how can get involved in the safety of rural communities.

This message will be brought by Pastor Damon Marling of United Christian Church.

Special music will be performed. Light refreshments will be served following the service.
