Two Edinburgh bars go smoke-free

EDINBURGH — When an Edinburgh bar owner began receiving complaints from people who had to step outside due to smoke, she decided that the best course of action was to go smoke-free.

Two Edinburgh bars, Cliff’s Bar & Grill, 113 East Main Cross Street, and The Blind Whistle, 8839 U.S. 31, recently went smoke-free, leaving only two bars in Edinburgh that allow smoking.

In 2012, a statewide policy took effect that prohibits smoking in all workplaces with the exceptions of bars, casinos, private clubs whose members vote to allow smoking, home-based businesses whose only employees are family members and tobacco retail shops. A city or county may pass a stronger law to include additional smoking regulations. The policy does not address the use of electronic cigarettes.
