Columbus police arrested a local man Tuesday morning after he was accused of stealing a purse from a customer inside a fast food restaurant.

At 7:55 a.m., officers responded to the reported theft at McDonald’s, 1880 N. National Road, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

When the officers arrived, they spoke with witnesses who said that the suspect, who was later identified as Torrie L. Bryant, 31, of 3012 15th St., ran out of the restaurant with a customer’s purse, Harris said. Three witnesses chased the suspect, however, they lost sight of him a short time later.

Officers later located Bryant at a residence in the 3000 block of 15th Street where he was placed under arrest. He was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on a preliminary charge of theft.

Bryant was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bond, jail officials said.
