CPD officers arrested a local man on several felony charges early Wednesday morning after he attempted to flee on foot during a traffic stop.
At approximately 1:20 a.m., a Columbus police officer attempted to stop a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed near 17th Street and Chestnut Street, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
A short time later, the driver, who was identified as Kurtis W. Gregory, 32, of Columbus, abruptly stopped his vehicle and began running from the officer, Harris said. A CPD canine responded and located Gregory behind a residence in the 1600 block of Chestnut Street.
The officers also found a syringe along with methamphetamine and heroin near where Gregory was located, Harris said.
Gregory was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:
Possession of heroin
Possession of methamphetamine
Possession of a legend drug injection device
Resisting law enforcement
