Columbus City Council considered requiring door-to-door solicitors to apply for a permit and submit to a criminal background check before being allowed to work in Columbus.

1994

A Columbus Fire Department Medic I ambulance, carrying a man who had just been rescued from the Driftwood River, slid into the edge of the river after its brakes failed to hold the heavy emergency vehicle on the boat ramp.

1969

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy Jim McKinney, unarmed and off duty, held two “short change” suspects from Florida in custody for what he called “the longest 15 minutes of my life” in the Columbus Center parking lot until Columbus policemen arrived.
