Looking Back – September 29

Hundreds of Columbus and area residents came downtown to view 140 antique cars parked in double rows all the way around the courthouse in 1969. The cars were participating in the WFBM-sponsored tour that stopped in Columbus for an hour on its way to Madison. From The Republic archives

A criminal investigation was launched to find who started the Sept. 19 fire that caused $3 million in damage to the Little Nashville Opry after federal investigators ruled the blaze was arson.

1994

In recognition of consistent increases in enrollment, courses and special program offerings, the name of IUPUI Columbus was changed to Indiana University Purdue University Columbus, IUPUC.

1969

Permits issued in August for building improvements in Columbus totaled an estimated $308,213, the second lowest monthly total of the year.
