Columbus GalacTech Team 4926 is already looking forward to what it hopes to be a successful competition season next spring after the Columbus-based robotics team won its first off-season robotics competition Saturday.
The team competed Saturday in a day-long tournament against 21 other teams from Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois and Tennessee. The competition, IndyRAGE, is a unique off-season event that ties the FIRST robotics competition together with an event focused on girls in STEM, or science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Using the original robot that the team designed earlier this year, GalacTech advanced to the play-offs in an alliance with Sham-Rock-Bototics Team 6956 from Westfield and Ferradermis Team 6574 from Whitewater, Wisconsin, after competing in five qualification matches.
The alliance won both the quarter-final and semi-final competitions, advancing to the final where they won the overall competition.
