Northbound, southbound lanes of I-65 now open after accidents

5 p.m.: The northbound lanes of I-65 have reopened, Indiana State Police said.

3:53 p.m. update: Indiana State Police are saying it may be another 45 minutes before the northbound lanes of I-65 reopen.

2:10 p.m. update: Indiana State Police are reporting southbound lanes of I-65 have reopened from the SUV rollover.

Traffic is continuing to be diverted off the northbound lanes at the 50 mile marker for the recreational vehicle on fire at the 55 mile marker.

ORIGINAL STORY

Northbound and southbound lanes of I-65 are closed south of Columbus due to two separate accidents within minutes of each other.

The southbound lanes of I-65 were closed first at about 1:15 p.m. near the 60 mile markerĀ  due to an overturned SUV. Minor injuries were reported.

Indiana State Police, an ambulance and wrecker were sent to the scene.

A Jackson County ambulance has been sent to go northbound to the scene as traffic is blocking Bartholomew County first responders from the scene.

A short time after Indiana State troopers began working that accident, the northbound lanes were closed at the 55 mile marker for a recreational vehicle that crashed into the median and caught fire. The occupants were able to escape the vehicle.

Traffic is being diverted off the interstate for the northbound lanes at the 50 mile marker.

Both of the accidents are within the construction zone where contractors are widening the interstate from two to three lanes south of Columbus to Seymour.
