Columbus police arrested an Edinburgh woman after witnesses said she was at a Columbus store burning price tags on merchandise and attempting to leave the store without paying for several items.
Officers were sent to Walmart, 735 Whitfield Drive, at 5 p.m. Sunday about the woman burning the price tags and then placing the merchandise in a bag, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
The woman, who was identified as Jennifer L. Durbin, 34, Edinburgh, attempted to leave the store and was stopped by store security and officers, Harris said.
After being handcuffed, Durbin attempted to kick and strike officers with her head, Harris said. Durbin was arrested on preliminary charges of felony theft with a prior conviction and misdemeanor resisting law enforcement, Harris said.
The stolen merchandise, valued at more than $100, was returned to the store.
