Around Town – October 24

Orchids to …

• Hanna Omar for her great letter about Michael Schoumacher.

• President Obama who inherited a disastrous economy and turned a booming one over to this president who has tried to take credit for it almost the day he took office.

• Bill and Norma Gelfius and all who helped at the annual Fun at the Farm, from all who attended.

• the eighth-graders from St. Peter’s Lutheran School who came to Best Friends on Monday, because we had a great time and really appreciated it.

• Lee Hamilton for his column concerning the value of immigration and how it makes our country better.

• Dr. Andy Bulla for going the extra mile for a 97-year-old out-of-towner, because my leg feels like a miracle was performed.

• Morgan, the cashier at Kroger, for going above and beyond her job duties on Wednesday morning, from a grateful customer.

• the Walgreens pharmacist who came to All Saints Community and administered the senior booster flu vaccine to several residents and staff, and to our service coordinator, Brandie, for arranging it for us.

• The Republic for the Orchids column that provides a place for positive remarks from readers, because we truly need this genuine example in today’s world.

Onions to …

• the dance studio instructor and owner that bad-mouths past students and their families in their classrooms.

• those who believe that the Electoral College of today functions as it was designed to do — allow electors to freely choose the most qualified candidate and prevent despots.

• President Trump who claims he’s in the hospitality business while his actions are anything but.

• people who run red lights, because an estimated 165,000 accidents occur annually in intersections caused by red-light runners, and fatalities caused by red-light runners run from 700-800 a year.

• people who believe red lights and speed limits are for everyone else, but not them, putting everyone in danger.

• the politician and his supporters who wail about “the swamp” while he tries to use his office to line his pockets.

• those who would rather be told what to believe than make an effort to figure out the truth for themselves.

• those who don’t recall President Bush drove the economy and the stock market over a cliff and under President Obama the market more than doubled from there.

• this president who is the ultimate bully and yet complains that he is being picked on by Democrats who are actually upholding our Constitution.

• our tough-guy president who isn’t so tough after all.
