A local man was arrested after Columbus Police Department received a report of several gunshots being fired at a Columbus apartment complex on Saturday night.

Officers were sent to the 3700 block of Williamsburg Way at 8:15 p.m. after receiving several reports of gunshots fired at the Williamsburg Way Apartments, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Officers located several shell casings outside of a nearby apartment and utilized a public address system on a patrol car to order the occupants to leave the apartment.

A short time later, four persons exited the apartment and were detained by the officers, Harris said.

Columbus Police Department detectives were called to assist with the investigation and later obtained a search warrant for the apartment. Officers checked several residences in the area and there were no injuries or property damage reported to law enforcement, Harris said.

After conducting several interviews, detectives arrested one of the apartment’s occupants, Jamontrae D. Bennett, 25, of Columbus, on a felony charge of criminal recklessness with a firearm. He was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail with a 48 hour hold as the investigation continues.
