German and Clay township volunteer firefighters were assisted by a number of area fire departments after a 5-acre field fire was reported at North County Road 500E and East County Road 275N.

Firefighters were sent to the field fire at 4 p.m. Sunday along with a number of brush trucks from area departments.

Bumper-mounted turret nozzles on brush trucks along with smaller hand-lines were used to extinguish the fire using a 500-gallon water tank, German Township firefighters said. The tank had to be refilled as firefighters needed 3,000 to 4,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire on Sunday.
