HOW SOON IS TOO SOON FOR A NEW SHOW’S CHRISTMAS SPECIAL?

Introduced in July, the family sitcom “Family Reunion” already streams its “Family Reunion Christmas Special.” For the uninitiated, Tia Mowry, famous for the ABC/WB comedy “Sister, Sister,” stars as wife of football star Moz (former NFL player Anthony Alabi). The humor revolves around their family’s adjustment to life in Georgia after years in the less traditional climate of the Pacific Northwest.

Loretta Devine stars as the very devout grandmother, never afraid to spare the rod or prepare a huge after-church supper. Look for Richard Roundtree (star of the original “Shaft”) as grandpa.

More than 50 years after her murder, the name Kitty Genovese remains a symbol of random urban violence and neighborly indifference.

The “Independent Lens” (10 p.m., PBS, TV-PG, r, check local listings) documentary “The Witness” follows Genovese’s brother as he recalls her life, death and the impact of her murder on society at large.

— Now streaming in half-hour dollops on Apple TV+, “The Servant” arrives with about as peculiar a premise as any show I’ve seen.

It’s impossible to put into words without spoiling things. Suffice it to say, it’s from M. Night Shyamalan of “Sixth Sense” fame. And like that 1999 shocker, “Servant” is set in a tastefully creepy Philadelphia home, where Sean (Toby Kebbell), a chef and work-at-home food “influencer,” and his TV reporter wife, Dorothy (Lauren Ambrose, “Six Feet Under”), have hired a nanny, Leanne (Nell Tiger Free), to care for their baby as a rattled Dorothy returns to work.

An 18-year-old of few words, Leanne is conspicuously pious and hails from Wisconsin. But she might have arrived from the 19th century. Or Mars.

Incessant rain, Leanne’s Victorian taciturnity, Dorothy’s nervous chattiness and Sean’s unhealthy way of gaping at the new “girl” are just a hint of strange things to come.

It’s worth noting that Apple TV+, the tech giant’s month-old stab at television, features two shows about TV journalists (this and “The Morning Show”) with more than a few personal problems.

— Now streaming on Acorn, season four of the Australian comedy “The Heart Guy.”
