Letter: Jon Rhode is the best fit for Superior Court II

From: Norman D. Curry

Columbus

I support Jon Rhode for Judge of Bartholomew County Superior Court II. He is the only one of the four candidates that has accomplishments that demonstrate his competence to be judge. Jon has served the people of Columbus for over 19 years as a CPD officer, including Columbus Police Chief for six years, with a combined total of supervision time of 12 years.

He has also been a practicing lawyer for the same period. He could make a bullet point list of his accomplishments and associations like the other candidates, but unlike them, Jon’s list would include many significant accomplishments, such as going through rigorous detailed improvements to CPD to get the department accredited by the International Accrediting Commission. This also includes his design and development of a system to reduce the time to facilitate processing cases by 50%. The state of Indiana is now exploring his system for possible use statewide. Through his years as a CPD officer, he developed many cases for deputy prosecutors and during trial, sat at the counsel’s table to advise the deputies.

Jon did all of this while he served as the highest level manager at CPD, a 98-person department with a more than $10 million budget. By the way, Bartholomew County Superior Court II is one of the highest volume courts in Indiana. Last year, 10,717 new cases were filed, and took in over $1.6 million in revenue which is used to help fund the court system. Jon is the only one of the four candidates with the ability to effectively and efficiently handle the responsibility of the court.

We are fortunate to have a judicial candidate with numerous high-level, proven accomplishments that will benefit us all. His record also includes a long bullet point list for his resume that exceeds the other candidates in this race. It would include additional important accomplishments. The other candidates do not have "life experiences" that are needed to truly fulfill the job requirements of Superior II. Jon’s life picture shows a hard-working and intelligent leader who has devoted his life to helping people and improving every situation in which he finds himself. Jon’s opponents don’t have much to show for their 20 years in law except some income and a bunch of bullet points (some of which are untrue). They are hoping at least one of the points will make you think they are "experienced."

Don’t fall for it!

Vote for Jon Rohde. He is efficient, understanding, thoughtful, honest, fair, and decisive. Jon and his wife, Sarah, have four children. They have been active for 20 years as members of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Columbus. I don’t take this endorsement lightly, I served as Judge of the Bartholomew Superior Court II for over 12 years. That is why I know Jon is the right fit for the job and the most qualified.
