Phil continues to seek donations for SALUTE!

The Columbus Indiana Philharmonic’s free, annual SALUTE! concert, an event that normally attracts an estimated 5,000 people, has been canceled amid the stay-at-home order caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 20th such gathering was planned for May 22 at the Bartholomew County Memorial For Veterans on Second Street in downtown Columbus.

But the orchestra still plans to salute area veterans and late concert founder and former Republic associate editor Harry McCawley with its annual special section planned in The Republic May 21. The nonprofit ensemble is now soliciting donations for special support pages before the edition, which serves as the event’s program, is printed.

“Help us celebrate the lives sacrificed for our freedom,” said Philharmonic board of directors member Mark Pillar in a email blast. “Make a donation in honor or in memory of someone who served or is serving our country … .”

You can honor one who has served in the military or is currently serving by donating in their name to the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic’s special section/program planned for May 21 in The Republic.
