COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus resumed city bus service on Tuesday, as Indiana moved into phase three of the state’s Back on Track reopening during the pandemic.

The buses are on regular service hours, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, city officials said.

“We strongly recommend wearing a mask, but it’s not required,” said operations assistant Libby Rubio. “We promote social distancing at the depot and bus stops, but not on the bus. At the shelters, we’ve posted a rider responsibility that we’re requesting them to not ride if they’ve been exposed to COVID or feel ill.”

Rubio also said that there is extra staff on hand to sanitize the buses hourly, when each bus returns to the depot at the end of each run.

She added that the transit system is not charging bus fare at this time. As of yet, there is not a scheduled date for when fares will resume.
