With temperatures at 93 degrees in the shade, volunteers set up tables and chairs, tidied up landscaping, power washed cement floors and pieced together midway rides in preparation for opening day of Bartholomew County 4-H Fair.

A push to bring downtown Columbus its first grocery store in nearly a decade faced an uphill struggle to find enough building and parking space.

1970

LeRoy Nelson, assistant principal at Columbus High School, was appointed by Bartholomew Consolidated School Board to become principal of the proposed second high school scheduled to open in 1972.
