Fire departments receive grants

Two Bartholomew County and one Jennings County fire departments have received Volunteer Fire Assistance Grants.

The awards may be used for training, installation of dry hydrants or to purchase firefighting equipment. The grants are administered through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service.

Receiving grants are:

  • Hope Volunteer Fire Department, $4,740 for communication equipment.
  • Southwest Bartholomew Volunteer Fire Department, $3,100 for safety needs
  • Campbell Township Volunteer Fire Department in Jennings County, $2,537 for communication equipment.

More than 70 rural and volunteer fire departments from 47 counties received the grants, which totaled $320,000 for the state.
