COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Granny Connection, the local group of women helping to fight the AIDS epidemic, recently tied a variety of knitted scarves to local downtown lampposts that they and other volunteers created to mark World AIDS Day last Tuesday — all for what is known as the Red Scarf Project.

The global representation of HIV/AIDS disease is the form of a red crossed ribbon. The displayed scarves are symbols of compassion for anyone needing one for warmth, according to organizers.

“We are honoring those 32 million who are living with HIV, those millions who have died of AIDS, and all families affected,” said the Granny Connection’s Ann Jones.
