Thomas Dale Rottinghaus, age 71, passed away at his home in Columbus, Indiana on Tuesday, December 22, 2020.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 49 years, Ann Rottinghaus, along with his children Heidi and Ben, his grandchildren, Abby, Paige, Tyler, Aidan, Eli, and Mason, his son-in-law Brian, and his daughter-in-law Erika, all of whom affectionately called him ‘Papaw’. He will also be fondly remembered by his sister Donna and brother Dan. He was preceded in death by his brother John.

Tom was born in Brookville, Indiana, and met his future wife in high school. After graduating from the School of Business at Indiana University, Tom began a career in sales. Later in his working career, he began doing construction and renovation work. In retirement, he kept himself busy with auctions and selling antiques on eBay.

Those that know Tom know that he was logical, loved music, handy with tools, and also quite feisty! He loved his family, friends, and neighbors. His family will fondly remember catching grapes in the pool, going on fishing trips, doing construction around the house, playing games (especially Bridge and other card games), watching football and volleyball, and “debating” anything and everything with him.

At Tom’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Arrangements will be made at a later date to celebrate his life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Tom to the National Park Foundation, as he loved visiting parks and monuments such as Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons.
