COLUMBUS

James W. Kistler, 70, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the Columbus Regional Hospital.

Mr. Kistler was born October 10, 1950, in Columbus, Indiana, the loving son of Harold E. and Dorothy V. Powell Kistler. On December 19, 1971, James married Nancy J. Geyer; she survives.

Mr. Kistler was a 1968 graduate of Columbus High School where he was a member of the football and baseball teams. He was selected as a member of the Indiana football all star team in 1968. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana Central College in 1972.

Mr. Kistler taught health and physical education at Avon High School for one year. He then started a long career with U.S. Aggregates where he served as an assistant superintendent retiring in 2012 after 48 years of service.

Mr. Kistler was a faithful member of Sandy Hook United Methodist Church where he was a former church trustee. He was a longtime Little League baseball coach and enjoyed traveling and playing golf.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Nancy; sons, Timothy (Tracy) Kistler of Seymour and Stephen Kistler of Columbus; grandsons, Jason (Alexandria) Kistler, Jared Kistler and Peyton Kistler; great-grandson, Jackson Kistler; brother, Michael (Ruth Ann) Kistler of Columbus; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. Kistler was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Dorothy Kistler and his sister and brother-in-law, Rose Ann and L. Scott Banister.

A private funeral service will be held at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Dazet officiating.

Mr. Kistler will be laid to rest in Section 80 at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sandy Hook United Methodist Church or University of Indianapolis Baseball Program.
