NORTH VERNON
Milton Berle Ownbey, 70, of North Vernon, passed away at 1:49 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at his residence.
Born February 18, 1950, in Seymour, he was the son of the late Woodrow Wilson Ownbey Sr. and Agnes Ernestine (Yeager) Ownbey. He married Anna Louise (Armstrong) Ownbey on June 13, 1971, at the Burnsville Christian Church; she survives.
Milton graduated from Jennings County High School in 1969. He went on to work for Arvin Industries in North Vernon for 20 years and as a machinist for NTN Driveside for 15 years before retiring in 2007. Milton was a member of the Jennings Church of Christ, a former member of the Commiskey Baptist Church, president of Jennings County Little League, a youth baseball coach and treasurer, and a Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, watching birds and squirrels, and watching his grandchildren play ball and dance.
Milton is survived by his wife; sons, Bryant (Joann Amis) Ownbey of North Vernon, Jeff (Kathy) Ownbey of Westport, and Patrick (Christy) Ownbey of Madison; brother, Woodrow Wilson Ownbey Jr. of North Vernon; grandchildren, Chaz Ownbey, Braden Ownbey, Lexi Ownbey, Luke Ownbey, Maddy Ownbey, and Alex (Randall) Genda, all of North Vernon, Zachary Watson, Zaynah Watson, and Zoie Watson, all of Madison, and Andi (Anthony Baker) Amis and Gary (Jess) Amis, both of Holton; and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Edward, Raymond, Allen, and Loyal Dale Short.
A funeral service for Milton will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 11, 2021, at the Jennings Church of Christ in North Vernon. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 10, 2021, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation services in North Vernon and on Sunday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Mt. Aerie Cemetery in Letts.
In compliance with CDC COVID-19 guidelines, only 50 people will be allowed in the funeral home or church at a time. Masks are mandatory. We thank our families for their continued cooperation during these difficult times as we strive to help keep our community safe.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home in Milton’s honor to the Riley Hospital for Children or to Our Hospice of Jennings County.
