Bull Dog gymnasts outscore Cougars

Columbus North junior Emily Moore captured the all-around title by winning three of the four events in helping the Bull Dogs claim a 107.95-103.925 gymnastics victory over visiting Bloomington North on Thursday night.

“We worked really hard in the gym this week to improve between Monday’s meet (against Columbus East) and tonight,” North coach Betsy Warble said. “The girls rallied together, and we saw improved scores across multiple girls. We had several (personal records) tonight. It was a great meet.”

Moore had an all-around score of 38.325. It was her performance on the beam that helped the Bull Dogs in a big way when both teams had trouble on it during the meet.

“I did better on some events, but I can still work on other events,” Moore said.

Moore finished with a 9.7 on the beam for first place, and she was the only gymnast to score higher than a 9.0 on that event. Moore also finished first on the bars (9.575) and floor (9.6). She finished second on the vault (9.45). Hope Taylor of Bloomington North was first on the vault with a 9.5.

“She has been working so hard in the gym during the week just to refine and stick landings and try to squeeze out every last tenth of a point,” Warble said. “There’s so few there left that she’s working really hard on every event just to squeeze everything out.”

Madi Edwards and Lindsay Mullis finished second and third in the all-around with scores of 35.075 and 34.325, respectively, for North. Edwards was third on the bars (8.575) and beam (8.6), and she finished fourth on the vault (8.8). Mullis was second on the bars (8.8) and fourth on the floor (9.125).
