Sheriff’s department warns of job application scams

COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office warns residents to be aware of scammers who are using fraudulent job application listings to obtain an individual’s personal information.

These listings pretend to be a local business/foundation in order to convince potential victims that it is safe to provide personal information. Do not provide personal information to anyone you do not know – even through job sites, the sheriff department said.

It is recommended that you contact the business directly using their listed telephone number to confirm that there is a job opening before moving forward.

“If you believe that you have been the victim of such an Internet fraud/identify deception, please contact your local law enforcement officials”,  said Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Major Chris Lane.
