BLOOMINGTON — Ali Patberg scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds Wednesday to help Indiana to a 90-65 Big Ten women’s basketball win against Penn State.
Patberg, a senior from Columbus North, also had two assists, a steal and a blocked shot for the Hoosiers (12-4, 10-2), who overcame a one-point halftime deficit by outscoring the Nittany Lions (8-8, 5-7) 51-25 in the second half.
Mackenzie Holmes scored 25 points, and Grace Berger recorded a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists to lead Indiana. Aleksa Gulbe added 15 points.
Meanwhile, Patberg has been named one of 30 finalists for the 2020-21 Senior CLASS Award. The Senior CLASS (Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School) Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence — community, classroom, character and competition.
The women’s candidates will be narrowed to two fields of 10 finalists in late February, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one player who best exemplifies the four areas of excellence. The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the Women’s Final Four.
