COLUMBUS

William H. Cox Jr., 89, of Columbus, passed away February 10, 2021 at Brown County Health and Living.

Bill was born February 22, 1931 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, the son of William H. and Grace I. Murphy Cox. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict in the Army Corp of Engineers. Bill retired from Arvin Industries in 1996, and then from Sacoma in 2006. He is a member of Community Church of Columbus, the National Sheriff’s Association, the Indiana Sheriff’s Association, National Chief of Police Association, long time member of the National Rifle Association, and past member of the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 729, the American Legion, as well as volunteered for Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Bill is survived by daughters Sandra Meinz of Columbus and Christine O’Leary of El Paso, Texas; sons William D. Cox and Kevin W. Cox both of Columbus; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; as well as sisters Pat Ritenour of Erie, Pennsylvania and Beverly Gelsdorf of Youngwood, Pennsylvania.

Bill was survived by a loving companion, Norma L. Kelly, who went to be with the Lord in 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and his youngest sister Sandra Curry.

The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday February 12, 2021 at the Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Mantooth officiating. Military Rites will be performed by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. If you are unable to attend the funeral service, you are invited to view the livestream at www.jewellrittman.com. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of services Friday. Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.
