COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police officers arrested a Freetown driver on numerous charges after he fled from officers on two consecutive days.
On Thursday, CPD officers attempted to stop Donovan A. Martin, 24, who had several
warrants for his arrest and was reportedly armed with a sawed off shotgun, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
Martin refused to pull over his truck for the officers and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The officers pursued Martin who disregarded several traffic signs and signals during the chase. Martin eventually fled from his vehicle which was left in gear and struck a fire hydrant near Eighth Street and Cottage Avenue, Harris said.
Officers pursued Martin on foot but lost sight of him a short time later.
On Friday, at approximately 7:25 p.m., a CPD officer spotted Donovan Martin standing at the corner of Seventh and Union streets. Martin reportedly fled on foot after observing the officer and a foot pursuit ensued, Harris said. The officer pursued Martin to a nearby alley where the officer noted he had a syringe in his hand. Martin dropped the syringe a
short time later and was taken into custody.
Martin was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for jail clearance. After being medically cleared, Martin was placed on a 72-hour hold at the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:
–Four Bartholomew County Warrants
–Resisting Law Enforcement
–Possession of a Legend Drug Injection Device
–Possession of a Narcotic Drug
–Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle
–Criminal Recklessness
–Criminal Mischief
–Leaving the Scene of an Accident
–Reckless Driving
