Foot chase ends in arrest in North Vernon

Staff Reports

NORTH VERNON — A Greensburg man is accused of attempting to flee from police after being stopped for drunk driving on Saturday.

At approximately 2:25 a.m.., officers with the North Vernon Police Department stopped a red Chevrolet Cavalier after it failed to dim its high-beam headlamps for oncoming traffic, said NVPD Sgt. Andrew Richmond.

After stopping the vehicle, in the 1800 block of North State Street, officers noticed signs that the driver, Edward Eugene Brown III, 24, of Greensburg, appeared impaired, Richmond said.

Officers directed Brown to exit his vehicle and he initially complied before attempting to run from police north into the KFC parking lot, Richmond said.

Richmond said additional officers arrived on scene, and were able to catch Brown in the parking lot of the Circle K Shell gas station.

Once back in custody, Brown gave false information regarding both his name and birthday, Richmond said.

Richmond said that officers also discovered that Brown is currently on home detention with Community Corrections and was supposed to be at his place of work at the time of the incident and failed to report to his detention officer he wasn’t at work.

Brown was transported to the Jennings County Jail on charges of operating while intoxicated with a prior conviction, driving while license suspended, resisting law enforcement and false informing.

Richmond said that it was Brown’s third felony OVWI charge.
