Cloyd Hobart Onks Sr., 85, of North Vernon, passed away at 1:20 pm on Friday, July 23, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

A funeral service will be conducted at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Michael Bean and Rev. Marvin Wright will officiate. Burial will be in the Dupont Cemetery later in August. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM till 5:30 PM, with the Masonic Ceremony starting at 5:30 PM before the service.

Born on November 7, 1935, in Blount County, Tennessee. Cloyd was the son of Hobart and Lena (DeVault) Onks. He was united in marriage to Bonnie Snodderly on February 13, 1959, in Greenville, Tennessee. She survives.

Cloyd served his country proudly from 1953 to 1957 rising to the rank of Sargent in the United States Marine Corp. He retired from the Golden Foundry after 34 years as an electrician. He also drove a city bus in Atlanta, GA, worked at Swift packing company and for Road Builders in Rossville GA. He loved traveling and fishing at Jan Lake in Canada. Cloyd was a boy Scout and youth leader an a member of St Marks United Methodist Church in Louisville, TN, Dupont United Methodist Church and was attending Graham Presbyterian Church where he was much loved. He was a member of the Dupont Masonic Lodge #419. Murat Shrine, and Murat Temple.

In addition to his wife, Bonnie of North Vernon, survivors include daughters, Francine Tina (Alan) Maschino-Adams of North Vernon, Mary Anna Onks of North Vernon, son David (Mariely) Onks of Bolivia and Kelly (Michael) Bean of Edinburg, IN; Brother-in-law Hugh Hamil of Louisville, TN, 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews. And a special caregiver Missy (Jimmy) Singleton.

Cloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Hobart and Lena Onks; son, Cloyd Onks JR; brothers George and Ernest Onks and sister LaUna Hamil.

Memorial can be made through the funeral home to Graham Presbyterian Church.
