Frances E. Land

COLUMBUS

Frances E. Land, 82, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 12:14 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at her home.

Fran was born June 25, 1939, in Columbus, Indiana, the loving daughter of Garnett L. Winchester Sr. and Mildred (Calvin) Winchester.

Fran was a 1957 graduate of Columbus High School, and she attended the IU School of Music. She later earned an associate degree in Applied Science from Ivy Tech.

Fran worked at Home Federal Bank from 1984-1985, she was the administrative assistant at First Christian Church from 1985-1998 and then worked in accounting at Home News Enterprises from 1999-2008. Fran was an active volunteer in the Columbus community. She had volunteered at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, Housing Partnership Inc, American Red Cross, and Meals on Wheels.

Fran was a member of the First Christian Church and the 3M’s class at the church, Mill Race Center, Columbus Pickleball Club and the Bartholomew County Genealogy Society. She was a past member of the hand bell choirs at First Christian Church, First United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church, and North Christian Church. Music was a large part of Fran’s life and she enjoyed making stained glass.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her sons, David (Anna) Land of Edinburgh and Steve (Nikki) Land of Hope; grandchildren, Megan (Robert) Sessions, Anna Land, Zachary (Mackenzie) Land, Stacy Land, Ethan (Sadie) Land, and Emma Land; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles (Diane) Winchester of Colorado; sister-in-law, Mildred Winchester of Edinburgh; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Fran was preceded in death by her parents, Garnett and Mildred Winchester Sr.; brothers, Keith Winchester, Richard Winchester, and Garnett Winchester Jr.; and her sister, Kathryn Wright.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Pastor Michael Hogg will officiate. A live stream of the funeral service may be viewed at barkesweaverglick.com.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Fran will be laid to rest in Section 38 at the Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church Music Department.
