Steven M. “Steve” Meek, 70, of Columbus, passed away at 10:40 a.m. Sunday, August 1, 2021, after a long illness at Brown County Health & Living.

Mr. Meek was born December 11, 1950, the son of Harry P. Meek Sr. and Waldean Holcomb Meek.

Steve retired from Cummins Engine Company in 2000 after 30 years of service, many of these years were spent as a representative of the Diesel Workers Union.

Steve’s greatest love, other than his children was music.

He was a member of Surge Brothers Band. He enjoyed writing and performing his music with the band at many places around the area.

He will be missed by his sons whom he loved dearly, Steven Todd (Jovonna) Meek of Kansas and Timothy Michael Meek of Oregon; Megan England of Texas whom he loved like a daughter; sisters, Patricia (Charles) Goins of Florida, Carolyn (Bob) Dickerson of North Carolina; brother, Greg (Kim) Meek of Taylorsville; sister-in-law, Nellie Meek of Hope; grandchildren, Brittany (Tommy) Lavoncher and Brandon Meek both of Indianapolis; great-grandchild, Eden Lavoncher and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harry P. (Buck) Meek Jr. and Harold Wayne Meek.

The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Dale Boyd and Steve Coy officiating.

Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to time of service Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
