On July 18, Mark Webber wrote a story called “A Complex Solution” saying “Retired two-star Air Force Major General Mark Pillar says he believes the U.S. did the right thing by going into Afghanistan after 9/11 to find and destroy terrorist training camps.” Maj. Gen. Pillar helped me understand the war in Afghanistan; why we went, why we stayed, and why it is time to leave. This is from a Vietnam veteran who will never understand why we went to Vietnam, and the price paid by the lives of 58,220 soldiers to retake the same hills over and over again for almost 20 years and then to just walk away. Was it worth it? What about the next one? Enough is enough!
