CPD brings back ‘Homework with an Officer’

Staff Reports

A popular Columbus Police Department outreach program will resume next week after being temporarily halted due to COVID-19.

Homework with an Officer, which started in Columbus in 2012, allows CPD officers the opportunity to interact with local students from kindergarten through eighth grade in a relaxed setting for one hour each week.

The officers usually spend 30-40 minutes assisting the students with their homework and the remaining time is spent playing games with the participants.

“We are excited to restart this program and begin working and having fun with the students once again,” said CPD Officer Brian Voyles, who is one of three officers assisting with the program this year. “I am looking forward to getting to know some of the new students and visiting with the returning students,” he said.

Homework with an Officer will be held at the following locations this school year:

Mondays (4–5 p.m.) Arbors at the Water’s Edge Apartments Clubhouse, 4060 N. County Road 150W

Tuesdays (4–5 p.m.) Candlelight Village Mobile Home Park Clubhouse, 3671 Candlelight Drive

At this time, participants in the program will be required to wear face masks.

There is no charge for students to attend this program.
