Staff Reports

Two local residents were arrested on drug-related charges after their vehicle was stopped by CPD officers early Wednesday morning.

Shortly after midnight, CPD officers stopped a vehicle on U.S. 31 near Lowell Road driven by Calvin L. Watkins, 50, of 5220 Regency Drive, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman. Officers spoke to Watkins and his passenger, Abigail N. Clemans, 23, of 1026 Chestnut St., and requested a police canine respond to the scene a short time later. The canine later alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle, Harris said.

Watkins and Clemans exited the vehicle and were detained. Officers located drugs including methamphetamine Watkins had reportedly concealed in his clothing. The officers also located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle near where Clemans was previously seated, Harris said.

Both Watkins and Clemans were transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where they were remanded on the following preliminary charges:

Watkins: Possession of methamphetamine, possession of a legend drug, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held in jail in lieu of $108,500 bond, jail officials said.

Clemans: Possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia. She was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $60,000 bond, jail officials said.
