Staff Reports

The Columbus Police Department arrested a local man on drug charges after he was stopped for a minor traffic violation on Sunday evening.

At about 6:55 p.m., CPD officers stopped a vehicle driven by Zackary K. Torres, 20, of 7640 Mill Run, Columbus, for a traffic violation. While speaking with Torres, the officers detected the odor of marijuana inside his vehicle. Officers later conducted a search of the vehicle and located an electronic smoking device, two digital scales and cocaine inside the vehicle’s center console, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Torres was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was remanded on the following preliminary charges:

Possession of cocaine

Possession of marijuana

Possession of drug paraphernalia

Torres’ bond was set at $15,000 but he was released without having to post it after being accepted into the county’s program that allows certain qualifying defendants to be released from jail without posting bond.
