William “Bill” Young

William “Bill” Young, 85, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life Thursday, October 21, 2021, at the Columbus Regional Hospital.

Mr. Young was born May 29, 1936, in Harlan County, Kentucky, the son of Clyde and Ida Mae Thompson Young. On June 16, 1956, Bill married Ellen Louise McKinney; she survives.

Mr. Young graduated from Clifford High School where he played basketball. Mr. Young served in the Indiana National Guard.

Mr. Young retired from Cummins Engine in 1996 after 40 years of service. He enjoyed electronics, he wheeled and dealed in antiques and coins, and collected rocks and minerals. It was said that he was a “Mad Scientist”.

Mr. Young is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ellen; children, Wyatt Dale (Dawn) Young of Elizabethtown, Jeff Young of Columbus, Roger A. Young of Columbus, Eric (Jennyfer) Young of Grove Port, Ohio, and Laura (Tom) Lashley of Hope; eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Young was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Young; mother, Ida Mae Ping; an infant brother, Kenneth Young; and half-brothers, Daniel Hiten, Robert Thompson, and Otis and Joseph Young.

In keeping with the family’s wishes, cremation is planned. There will be no service.
