Club Olympia competes in Louisville meet

Club Olympia Swim Team competed in the 2021 Jack Thompson Classic swim meet last weekend in Louisville against Louisville’s two largest club teams an others from Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio.

With 40 athletes, Club Olympia finished third behind the much larger host Lakeside Swim Team and the Raiders Swim Club from Dayton, Ohio, while outplacing the Cardinal Aquatics team from Louisville. Twelve of Club Olympia’s competitors are new to the club this season and competing in their first ever swim meet for the club.

Connelly Furnish, competing in the girls 11-12 division, won the 50-yard freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle; 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley. Furnish also had four other top-six finishes including a sixth in the in the open age group in the 1,000 freestyle.

Ashley Freel, swimming in the girls open division, claimed first in the 1,000 freestyle, second in the 50 butterfly and 50 freestyle and added seven other top-five finishes.

Misha Machavariani, competing in the boys 13-14 division, won the 500 freestyle with six additional top-five finishes.

Tony Machavariani competed in both 8U and 10U events, winning the 8U 50 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 50 butterfly and claiming top-five finishes against the 10 year olds in four events.

Shreyan Kulkarni, placed in the top 10 in all 10 of his events against 10 year olds, including top-five finishes in the 50 butterfly, 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle and 200 IM.

Josh Pendleton, competing a partial schedule for the weekend, had five top-10 finishes, including a first in the boys 11-12 50 freestyle, third in the 200 freestyle and fourth in the 100 butterfly.

Aashka and Vivan Shah combined for six top fives, with Aashka taking fifth in the 9-10 50 butterfly and 100 butterfly. Vivan placed second in the 25 freestyle, third in the 25 butterfly, fourth in the 25 backstroke and fifth in the 50 freestyle in the 8U division.

Maggie Johnson and Hope Westphal, both competing in the women’s open division, combined for 11 top-10s, including second- and fourth-place finishes, respectively, in the 1,000 freestyle, where Club Olympia placed four swimmers in the top six.

Sanaa Kulkarni recorded eight top-10 finishes, and Todd Hundley had three top-10 finishes. Sarthak Deshmukh, swimming in his first competitive meet with Club Olympia, took eighth in the 50 backstroke. Aahan Gupta claimed 10th in the 50 freestyle in his first meet.

Other first time Club Olympia competitors included Vincent Chen, Sophie Graham, Josie Hudson, Aahana Ingole, Myra Jaryal, Adir Joshi, Vidita Keskar, Harini Pinna, Vaishnavi Pinna, Aksh Ranjan and Saanvi Vibhuti.
