Donald Dean Doty, 67, of Scipio, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Don was born on March 12, 1954 in Effingham, Illinois to parents William and Betty (Kessler) Doty. When Don was a child, he met his future wife, Susan Dritt through his best friend, Dan Dritt who was Susan’s brother. Don and Susie remained friends for many years before beginning their relationship and later, getting married. Together, they moved to Madeira Beach, Florida where they spent many wonderful years before returning to Indiana to be closer to family.
Upon returning to Indiana, Don began working at Marvin Johnson and Associates in 1983 and worked there until his retirement in 2019.
Over the years, Don had many interests and hobbies. He had a love for racing, especially NASCAR, and he enjoyed going to many local dirt track races in his younger years. He and his family also spent several summers camping. He enjoyed landscaping, building model planes, listening to music, and riding motorcycles, particularly Harley Davidsons. Don also had a knack for refurbishing old furniture and a talent for restoring old boats and cars.
Don is survived by his parents, Bill and Betty Doty of Madison, Indiana; his wife of 43 years, Susie Doty of Scipio; children Jessica (Steve) Doty-Ruble of Hartsville, Jade Doty of Greensburg, and Nash Doty of Scipio; grandchildren, Nola, Anna, Jack, and Harlie; his brother, Doug (Laddie) Doty of Madison, Indiana; and nieces, Hanna and Danielle.
A memorial service for Don will be held Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street. Friends and family may gather for visitation two hours prior to the service, from noon until 2 p.m.
