Randall Carl ‘Randy’ Dettmer

Randall Carl “Randy” Dettmer, 69, of Columbus, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday evening November 10, 2021 at his home. He was born January 27, 1952 in Columbus to the late Carl Henry Dettmer and Helen Louise Meyer Dettmer. He married Rita J. Welmer on May 25, 1974 and she survives.

Randy was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church-Clifty and served for many years as a volunteer firefighter with Southwest Fire and Rescue. He graduated from Columbus High School with the class of 1970 and served in the Indiana National Guard. Randy retired from Boyer Machine and Tool with over 32 years of service. He enjoyed camping, bowling, horses and cutting fire wood.

Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday November 14, 2021 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church-Clifty 6450 E. State Street with Pastor Douglas Bauman officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Randy to either Southwest Fire and Rescue or the Bartholomew County Humane Society.

Randy is survived by his wife Rita, son Jeff (Jennifer) Dettmer of Columbus; daughters, Amanda (Brad) Helt of Seymour and Carla (Matt) Harden of Columbus and a sister Barb (Mike) Feltner of Columbus. Randy is also survived by 7 grandchildren who were the light of his life, Leah Harden, Coryn Harden, Jacob Dettmer, Jonathon Dettmer, Jaclyn Dettmer, Benjamin Helt and Sarah Helt. He was preceded in death by his parents.
