Letter: Why can’t we all just get along?

We are having a long-term decline in the quality of human behavior. The current refusal of so many to be vaccinated to slow the spread of a virus that is a threat to all of us is a showing of our behavioral decline.

People are belligerent and abusive in public meetings. Our divorce rate was 25 percent in the 1950s. Then it went to 33 percent and then much higher. Now people are living together without marriage, and from 1990 to 2016, 40% of children were born out of wedlock. That rate is higher now.

When Adlai Stevenson ran against Dwight Eisenhower in 1952, Stevenson lost votes because he was divorced although not remarried. Our recent president has been married three times. Many countries are unstable because of the combativeness of their citizens. There are 243 million migrants in the world because people can’t get along with each other.

What should we do?
