Red scarves call attention to AIDS awareness

In commemoration of World AIDS Day today, the Columbus-based Granny Connection nonprofit outreach will place red scarves on downtown trees and lamp posts.

The scarves will represent the large red ribbons of HIV and AIDS awareness. Many people throughout the community have knit and donated the scarves.

People who would like a warm scarf are encouraged to take the scarves and use them.

The Granny Connection provides support, advocacy, and funding to grandmothers in Africa who are raising children orphaned by AIDS, as well as local HIV/AIDS education and awareness.
