Edith Karen Merriman

COLUMBUS, INDIANA

Edith Karen Merriman, 76, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 5:45 a.m. Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Mrs. Merriman was born in Bedford, Indiana, December 19, 1944, the loving daughter of John G. and Nora Taylor Elkins. On October 15, 1994, Karen married Ronnie Merriman; he survives.

A homemaker and all about her family, Mrs. Merriman enjoyed spoiling her grandkids and cherished the times she was at a family gathering. She loved her dogs and her grand dogs.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband, Ronnie; children, Linda Cook (Henry Hoover) of Elizabethtown, John (Debbie) Tolbert of Elizabethtown, and Tim Tolbert of Columbus; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister, Linda (Russell) Cox of Bedford; brothers, John (Sparky) Elkins of Indianapolis, Jack (Sharon) Elkins of Columbus, and Lorenzo Elkins of Bedford; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Mrs. Merriman was preceded in death by her parents, John and Nora Elkins; siblings, Henrietta Fields, Elizabeth Wilson, Virginia Sowders, Rebecca Shumaker, William “Bill” Elkins, and Robert Elkins; grandchildren, Chyenne Wray and Jeffery Tolbert; and great-grandchildren, Tyterius Wray and Jordan Wray.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Pastor Ed Boston will officiate.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Merriman will be laid to rest at the Bethel Baptist Cemetery.
