Noon UPDATE

After further investigation into the Snapchat message, BCSC officials have confirmed that the East mentioned is in a neighboring state and BCSC school resource officers have been in contact with that school. That school has been working through this situation today as well. The investigation has been completed by the school resource officers.

9:30 A.M. UPDATE

Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. officials provided additional context about the social media threat being investigated this morning.

“This morning, SROs saw a snapchat message that showed a screenshot of an email. The text over top of the screenshot mentions East but doesn’t specify if it’s Columbus East. The email doesn’t appear to be from a BCSC student or staff member, and the teacher named in the email is not from BCSC. He said it’s common to see these kinds of messages on Snapchat that use a directional name, such as East, but don’t give context for the school mentioned, thus creating confusion. When this happens, the school corporation tries to track down the origins of said message with the SROs.”

“Our staff and students’ safety is the most important thing to us,” school officials said.
