Louisville truck driver dies in I-65 southbound accident

COLUMBUS, Ind.  — Columbus police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 on Tuesday night.

At approximately 11:20 p.m., CPD officers responded to I-65 southbound near the 67 mile marker in regards to a one-vehicle crash, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

When officers arrived, they noted that a semi-tractor and trailer carrying steel tubing had left the southbound lanes and crashed, Harris said. The driver of semi, James McGoff, 51, of Louisville, Kentucky, died at the scene of the crash, investigators said.

The southbound lanes of Interstate 65 were closed for several hours overnight while the crash was investigated.

Investigators are closing the southbound lanes of I-65 at 10 p.m. tonight for about six hours in order to complete cleanup of the accident scene.
