Yeaton to climb Mount Kilimanjaro

Southside Elementary teacher and bus driver Mark Yeaton probably has raised more money for more charitable causes than any one person locally the past decade or so. He’s done so mostly on his racing bike, with cross country treks and more.

Now he’s ditching the bike and climbing toward another challenge — climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, among the highest peaks in the world and the tallest spot in Africa at 19,360 feet.

He’ll leave Jan. 10 and climb Jan. 14 to 19, raising money for a Kenyan medical field clinic to be built by the Fellowship of American Evangelists.

People can donate to the effort at fameworld.org and by clicking on “Support the Mount Kilimanjaro Climb.”

Yeaton also plans to do some video work on the mountain that can be used in his classroom regarding the science of melting snow on the mountain’s glaciers.
