Two teens arrested at local hotel on drug, gun charges

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Two teenagers from Seymour were arrested at a Columbus hotel on Thursday morning after officers recovered a handgun, drugs, and a large amount of currency from their hotel room.

At approximately 8 a.m., CPD officers were sent to a hotel in the 2400 block of Jonathan Moore Pike in regards to a couple acting suspiciously, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The officers were advised that a man, later identified as 18-year-old Keegan Brooks of Seymour, was observed displaying a handgun and a large amount of currency.

The officers made contact with Brooks and Stefany J. Thomas, 18, of Seymour who were inside a hotel room, Harris said. Officers noted that both Brooks and Thomas appeared to be under the influence of an unknown intoxicant. The officers later obtained a search warrant for the room and located over a pound of marijuana, approximately 90 oxycodone pills, drug paraphernalia including scales and packaging material, a .380-caliber handgun and more than $5,000.00 in cash, Harris said.
Brooks and Thomas were placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where they were remanded to the custody of the jail staff on the preliminary charges list below.

While at the jail, officers located additional oxycodone pills that Thomas had reportedly concealed in her clothing, Harris said.

Preliminary charges are:
–Keegan Brooks: Dealing in marijuana, possession of a narcotic drug, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a handgun without a license, and maintaining a common nuisance.
–Stefany Thomas: Dealing in marijuana, possession of a narcotic drug, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining a common nuisance, trafficking with an inmate.

Both remain incarcerated at the jail without bond on a 48 hour hold.
