MALE

Ashton Hartwell // Columbus East senior wrestler

Hartwell won his 285-pound match by pin in a 58-6 win at Columbus North and won all four of his matches by pin in leading the Olympians to the Columbus East Invitational title on Saturday.

His performance last week: “I probably should have worked more on shooting a little bit on opponents I’m going to see deeper into the season so I’m confident when I go against them.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Listen to a little bit of music and make sure I’m relaxed and not nervous when I go out there.”

Favorite drink: “Mountain Dew.”

Favorite food: “Pizza.”

Favorite class: “Math”

Favorite sports team: “Notre Dame”

Favorite athlete: “J.J. Watt”

Role model: “My dad (Reggie Hartwell)”

Best advice: “The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war.”

Athletics goal: “To make it to the next level in my athletic career in wrestling or football.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably Hawaii. It looks like a cool place, and it’s tropical.”

FEMALE

Karissa Miller // Columbus East senior swimmer

Miller won the 100-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke in a 98-88 win against Columbus North and won the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke in Saturday’s 97-88 win over New Albany.

Her performance last week: “I was coming off of a sickness, so I feel like I could have had some personal-bests, but considering everything that was going on, I felt like I did pretty good.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “In the locker room, we always have a dance party. There’s a speaker playing music really loud, so we all sing and dance and get hyped up before the meet.”

Favorite drink: “Strawberry lemonade”

Favorite food: “Pizza”

Favorite class: “Criminal justice”

Favorite sports team: “Alabama swimming”

Favorite athlete: “Katie Ledecky”

Role model: “My mom (Marlene Miller)”

Best advice: “Be kind and respectful to everyone.”

Athletics goal: “To PR (set a personal record) and hopefully get under a minute in the 100 backstroke.”

If you could travel anywhere: “The Maldives, because I love all beaches and anything tropical.”
